About Hometown Histories

History doesn’t only happen in famous places.

Hometown Histories is an independent documentary production company dedicated to uncovering overlooked stories about the people, places, and events that shaped communities.

Why Hometown Histories exists

Major historical events are well documented. The smaller stories surrounding them often are not. A veteran’s experience may survive only in a family scrapbook. A local resident may have participated in an extraordinary world event that few people in the community ever knew about. Hometown Histories looks for those connections and brings them to the screen.

It started in Moon Township

The project began in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, where volunteers researched and produced documentaries about stories with local connections. That original collection remains an important part of the company’s identity.

From one hometown to many

Moon Township is where Hometown Histories began, but the idea is built to travel. Every community has overlooked stories worth preserving.

How we work

Discover → Research → Verify → Produce → Preserve
Modern production tools support the work, but historical interpretation remains subject to human research and editorial review.
